Job Description

The K-5 Mental Health Counselor at Classical Prep will coordinate, facilitate, and implement mental health support services. The K-5 Mental Health Counselor will provide emotional support and foster a safe and successful learning environment for lower school scholars.

Overview

  • Position: Full-time
  • Work Schedule: 7:20 am – 3:40 pm Monday through Friday, 207 contract days plus occasional nights, weekends, and summer hours as deemed necessary
  • Benefits: Insurance benefits, 3% match of employee retirement contribution, and 10 days of PTO

Required Education, Experience, and Certification/Licenses

  • Master’s degree
  • Licensed or certified mental health professional
  • Experience working in mental health, school psychology, behavior intervention, or related field

To be considered as a K-5 Mental Health Counselor, a candidate must…

  • Maintain transparent and open lines of communication

  • Be solutions-oriented 100% of the time when raising concerns and questions

Specific tasks required of this role include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Identify scholar needs and provide direct scholar services
  • Provide structured presentations to scholars and families concerning target areas of assessment that define individual strengths and provide resources to help develop academic and social development
  • Collaborate with families, teachers, administrators, support staff, and community agencies to address the varied needs of students
  • Plan, organize, and deliver the School Counseling Program as described in Pasco County’s School Counselor Standards of Practice and as required by federal, state, and local regulations and procedures
  • Respond to crisis events, both scholar and school-specific, to prevent harm to self or others, to identify unmet needs, and to provide support or resources to necessary support programs and services
  • Facilitate meetings for scholars and school-based issues and concerns
  • Provide counseling services to individuals and small groups that relate to physical, emotional, and educational well-being
  • Use data to develop strategies to positively impact scholar’s social-emotional behavioral health
  • Prepare and maintain records and reports pertaining to Section 504 Plans
  • Conduct 504 Meetings and provide follow-up to teachers to ensure all accommodations are being provided
  • Maintain professional growth through school-based, district, and other professional development programs
  • Lead Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) training for staff and students
  • Address bullying/harassment
  • Provide education and awareness via classes/presentations on anger/stress management, cyber safety, etc.
  • Provide next steps involving short-term and/or long-term therapy or intervention; advocacy
  • Address mental health and mental illness, risky behaviors (i.e., alcohol/drug use), depression, and anxiety (i.e., suicide ideation)
  • Maintain and track documentation of mental health support for students
  • Other duties as assigned
The Mental Health Counselor must also be a member of the School-Based Threat Management Team (SBTMT) and meet regularly with school and district-level administration.
